Our second day in Gavelston we hopped on the bike and back tracked to the Houston Space Centre which was actually about halfway between Galveston and Houston, and was included in the City Pass we purchased. It was excellent with lots to see we spent several hours looking around plus doing a guided tour of the campus & mission control centre. We opted to visit the last place included in our city pass, a place called Kemah Boardwalk near the coast on the way back to Galveston. They had a couple rides including a very fast wooden coaster here, but we weren\u2019t particularly impressed and ended up giving our passes away to a family waiting in line to buy them and heading back to camp.

Our third day in Galveston was a bit of a wash out – litterally. In the morning we tried to go hiking but found most of the trails completely covered in water. In the afternoon a huge rain storm hit so we hunkered down in the RV. The wind pushed us from side to side for about an hour before the skies cleared. That evening was the clearest it has been since we arrived, so we packed up the RV (minus the motorcycle) and went into town to try and wash some of the weeks of collected bug guts and other grime from it at a car wash. This was fairly successful but there were still a few spots we couldn\u2019t reach without a ladder. After we visited downtown Galveston for a little walk around, and since we were feeling hungry enjoyed a meal at a restaurant with a dog friendly patio.

The morning of our departure from Galveston was very nice so we went for a long walk on the beach before heading out. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

We drove about 2 hours to a spot called Matagorda Bay, where the Colorado River empties into the Gulf of Mexico. It was nice here other than the seemingly constant stream of traffic coming in and out of the park at high speeds. There were many birds around which the area is known for. We probably would have been fine with one night here but we had two on the itinerary, and since we both had come down with a cold we opted to spend a second night to have some time to relax and try to recovery from our illness.

Our last stop along the Texas coast was Goose Island State Park about 45 minutes outside of Corpus Christi. The campground itself was very peaceful, but the park didn\u2019t have a lot to offer in terms of trails. The waterfront area was extremely windy and not very enjoyable to walk around. On our second day we went for a ride after lunch across the Aranasas Pass by ferry and down to Mustang Island state park where we walked on the beach one last time, before circling into Corpus Christi on our way back. We were treated to a practice by the Blue Angels over Corpus Christi. The town itself actually looked quite nice though we didn\u2019t stay very long as we were tired and wanted to get back.
