We opted to take the motorcycle north towards Courtenay and Comox along the coastal highway for our last full day on the island. The ride was very nice with great views of the Salish Sea and mountains in every direction. We particularly enjoyed the waterfront in Comox where we stopped for a bit to look around and snap some photos. After that we headed to a few wineries to sample the goods. After picking up a few bottles to enjoy at the campground we headed back after making a brief stop to walk around downtown Courtenay.
We had booked an afternoon ferry to the mainland the following day, so we tried to make the most of our morning, first by doing the hike to see the waterfall at Englishman River, then by going kayaking at Rathtrevor Provincial Park along the way back to Nanaimo. The ferry dropped us off at a place called Tsawwassen just north of Point Roberts Washington. From there we headed east along the Fraser River to Langley to stay with our friend Mat for a couple nights.
Mat was nice enough to drive us into Vancouver the following day and show us around Gastown and Stanley Park. That evening we enjoyed dinner with him and his neighbours who had just completed a two month long RV journey across Canada with their 10 year old son, so we were able to compare notes the ups and downs of RV life!
The next morning Mat took us up Golden Ears Provincial Park to take Misty and his dog for a walk to tire them out. It worked great, Misty slept most of the way to our next stop just outside Kelowna!
We had booked three nights in Bear Creek Provincial Park which was right on the west shore of Lake Okanagan.
Our first day we hopped on the motorcycle and headed South to Penticton, riding through the wine region of Summerland along the way and stopping to taste. The waterfront in Penticton was very nice and we went up the east side of the lake towards the small village of Naramata where there were also several excellent wineries. We ended up bringing four bottles back to the campground with us.
The next day it was forecast to be much hotter and without any electrical hookups in the campground we didn’t want to leave Misty behind so we took the motorhome into Kelowna. After finding parking we walked around the lovely waterfront and downtown for a couple hours.
